Until now, you could not fit four passengers in a side-by-side UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle)
without resorting to aftermarket solutions, many of which have been
judged substandard from a safety perspective. Those days are now over
thanks to Polaris.
Already a leader in sport UTVs, Polaris has
introduced the RZR 4, the factory-built 4 passenger utility vehicle. The
RZR 4 can fit four adults comfortably, and adjustable seat positions
make the UTV can accommodate both large and small passengers alike.
Power comes from a fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, 760cc parallel twin that produces 55 horsepower. If that does not sound like a lot, remember that this machine only weighs 1255 lb. Those UTV enthusiasts
who venture onto high performance trails will appreciate the Fox Podium
X 2.0 shock absorbers, which are fully-adjustable for preload and
damping. They offer a whopping 12 inches of suspension travel. Stock
tires are highly aggressive Maxxis Bighorns that will work well in both
the sand and mud. Bed capacity is 300 pounds, and towing limit is 1500
pounds. The transmission features 5 settings: Park, Neutral, Reverse,
Low Gear, and High Gear. All-wheel-drive is on-demand, and two-wheel
drive is selectable.
The potential downside for some buyers may
be MSRP. The Polaris RZR 4 retails for nearly $15,000 - significantly
more than a slightly preowned 4x4 pickup truck. At this price, UTV insurance is highly recommended, as is a weatherproof storage area or garage. The only other complaint which has turned up has been a weak clutch belt.
The RZR 4 represents a bold new step for Polaris, and a way that whole families can now enjoy off-roading together.
